MUI NeurotechEU Mobility Grant for PhD & Postdoc – Apply now!

MUI NeurotechEU invites applications for the NeurotechEU Mobility Grant for PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers, to support PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to complete a research stay at one of the NeurotechEU partner universities. The grant supports travel and accommodation expenses for the grantee for a research stay stay of 1-6 months. Applicants can receive up to €7,500.  

Below is a brief overview of the call. Detailed information on the funding, the application and reimbursement process and reporting can be found below.  

Target Group: 

  • PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers employed at the Medical University of Innsbruck, working in a field related to neuroscience.
  • Applicants must have a support letter from their MUI supervisor (PhD) or head of the department (Postdoc) and an invitation letter from the host institution’s research group.  
  • The host institution must be a NeurotechEU partner university.  

Funding

  • Eligible expenses include only travel and accommodation costs.  
  • Eligible expenses can be reimbursed up to the approved grant amount, with a maximum of €7,500

Application Information  

  • Application deadline: 18 October 2026, 23:59.  
  • The research stay should take place between 1 January – 31 October 2027. 
  • Applications will be assessed by an independent selection committee consisting of members of the NeurotechEU community. Applicants will be informed of the outcome within three weeks after the application deadline.

Research stays can last from 1 to 6 months, with a maximum funding amount of €7,500. 

  • Travel Costs: The funding covers the cost of second-class train tickets, economy-class flights, a mileage allowance (Innsbruck – Destination), as well as time-based tickets for local public transport (e.g. weekly or monthly passes). 
  • Accommodation Costs: Funding covers the cost of staying in a hotel, B&B or Airbnb (the latter is recommended for longer stays). Private accommodation cannot be reimbursed.  

To apply, send your application including all five documents listed below to neurotecheu@i-med.ac.at by 18 October 2026, 23:59 the latest. Applications will only be considered if they include all five of the above documents and are fully completed.

Application documents:

  1. Completed application form
  2. Invitation letter from the host institution
  3. Support letter from the MUI supervisor/head of department
  4. Curriculum vitae, including a publication list if available
  5. Proof of approved leave of absence

To receive the funding, a detailed final report must be submitted to neurotecheu@i-med.ac.at within six weeks of completing the research stay.

The following documents must be included: 

  • Completed travel expense reimbursement form (‘Reisekostenabrechnung im Rahmen von Projekten (Drittmittelbereich)’, to be found on the intranet). 
  • Original flight tickets/boarding passes, train tickets, or local public transport tickets along with corresponding payment proof (e.g., credit card statement, invoice). 
  • Original invoice for accommodation costs with corresponding payment proof (e.g., credit card statement, invoice). 
  • A 1-2 page report on the research stay and its impact on the applicant’s own research (and, if applicable, an updated financial plan). 

Important note: unless a justified delay has been communicated and agreed upon with the NeurotechEU MUI team (neurotecheu@i-med.ac.at), the funding offer will be voided if the reimbursement is not submitted within six weeks of the reported end of the project.
